the blue continent

The Blue Continent is an online platform documenting an international research project for leading cultural institution Uebersee-Museum Bremen.

As Digital Strategist and Creative Director I brought together an Aotearoa-based distributed team to conceptualise, ideate, design and deliver a bi-lingual website to summarise a range of responses to the museum’s collection of taonga from Oceania.

Being based in Germany, it was critically important to the client to attract a team located in this part of the world to interface with their staff and collaborators, and to interpret their brief through a Pacific lens. We approached the entire project from a te ao Māori perspective and our Māori designer was empowered to hold the entire creative vision of the project.

To make things more interesting, the entire site had to be fully compliant with WCAG 3.0 AA and GDPR regulations, and gracefully handle access from low-bandwidth locations (like the Pacific) and older mobile devices.
